R&D / Engineering Manager

Apex Canvas (located in Loudon, TN) specializes in the engineering and manufacturing of bimini tops, boat covers and other canvas products for the marine industry. We are committed to providing the highest quality service and value based on vast years of experience in the marine industry. We translate that experience and expertise into each product that we produce.

We are seeking dynamic and innovative leader to take our R&D Team to the next level. You'll lead a team of Engineers in a fast-paced and innovative environment. You'll also work closely with key Operations Team Members to design and assist with the implementation of processes, methods, and best practices.

Responsibilities:

In addition to managing the daily operation and collaboration of the Engineering Team, you'll:

• Embrace company programs to solidify the culture and to facilitate the personal and professional development of each Team Member
• Establish clear processes, procedures, and technology implementation to drive the delivery of exceptional results
• Lead the design, prototyping, validation, and manufacturing setup of our manufactured products
• Coach Team Members to improve the metrics for safety, quality, delivery, and cost
• Plan, analyze, and effectively communicate the progress and risks associated with each project
• Devise and implement organizational and technical strategies to advance the company's products to the next level of cost, quality, lead time and flexibility

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Industrial, Mechanical, Mechatronic, Manufacturing, or similar Engineering discipline
• 5+ years management experience
• 5+ years' experience engineering and manufacturing electrical and mechanical products
• Ability to innovate, to ask "why not", to create new products, implement new business technology, tackle new market opportunities
• Self-starter: ability to take charge with a positive and proactive attitude
• Strong mathematical knowledge and ability to apply that knowledge to drawings, specifications, charts, tables, formulas, measuring instruments, computer and computer software applications
• Openness and ability to effectively communicate with technical and non-technical cross-functional and multi-generational teams at all levels in and outside the company
• Ability to read, write, comprehend, and verbalize
• Creative, results-oriented thinker who is attentive to the detail and accuracy necessary to successfully produce engineering results on time and on budget
• Ability to handle ambiguity and work in a fast paced, entrepreneurial environment
• Lean or Six Sigma certification and demonstrated success in leading a Lean organization is desired
